Life doesn’t get much better than spending a nice, relaxing day on the beach. Whether you are swimming, paddle boarding, surfing, boating, or sunbathing, a day on the beach guarantees fun in the sun…and sand. Of course, it is never fun to leave the beach covered in sand, but if you and your belongings are covered in sand, it can, and will, quickly find its way into your apartment.
There is no way on earth to leave every grain of sand at the beach, but by following a few tips, you can seriously limit the amount of sand you bring home. In addition to wearing the right clothes and rinsing off properly, experts from our apartments for rent in Delray Beach, FL, offer these tips for leaving sand where it should be, the beach.
Purchase a large mesh bag for your trips to the beach. No matter how hard you work at avoiding it, your belongings and bag will collect sand when you visit the beach. However, a mesh bag will let the sand fall out on the walk to the car, so you take the least amount of sand possible home with you. When you get to the parking area, give the bag a solid shake to encourage as much of the sand as possible to fall out.
Sit on a chair instead of a towel. You can dip your chair into the water before leaving the beach, removing any excess sand it has come into contact with. On the other hand, wet towels get heavy and hang on to sand particles for dear life. Use towels for staying warm and drying off, so they do not have as much contact with the sand on the beach. Don’t forget to wash your chair off with clean water from the hose when you get home! Saltwater is known for its corrosive properties.
Be sure to wear open-toed shoes or flip-flops for your trip to the beach. Sneakers and other closed-toed shoes can quickly become filled with sand. Flip flops, sandals, and other open-toed shoes will allow the sand to fall out on your walk back to your vehicle freely.
Before you head back to the car, take a plunge in the water to loosen and remove any sand in your suit. Then, when you come back to shore, stay in the calmest water area. Waves stir up loose sand, so you will get gritty all over again if you swim through the waves!
After your long trek through the sand, find a beachside shower for a final rinse. It also helps rinse out your buckets and toys before heading to your car. We know it is not the most enjoyable thing to do after a long day in the sun, but the less sand you take home, the less you have to clean up later.
